Just a little north of this site is the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park – Winaityinaityi Pangkara. The Bird Sanctuary encompasses over 60 km of coastline adjacent to Gulf St Vincent and is home to 263 unique fauna and flora species. Every year, migratory shorebirds make the long haul flight to feed on the shores of the Sanctuary over our Summer months. Paddling around the wetlands and waterways of this part of the Gulf I can see why. It’s an incredibly diverse and fertile ecosystem and it is important we take care of these spaces as urban development threatens these tiny birds and their intrepid travels.
White Heron was shortlisted as a finalist for the 2019 Watershed Art Prize and was exhibited throughout May/June 2019 in the John Harvey Gallery, Salisbury, South Australia. The Watershed Art Prize encourages awareness of water as a precious resource.
It was also on display Feb/Mar 2020 in the Yellow Heart Gallery, Women’s and Children’s Hospital, North Adelaide. The Heart Galleries bring visual art to the community to provide a space away from the stresses of treatment to distract, entertain and inspire, improving the hospital environment.
BioCup featured the piece in their Art Series for 2020-2021.
